TUESDAY 28 AUGUST  - PETER ABBOTT
In Belgium Div 4D, URS de Centre (matricule no. 213) have moved from Rue dela Hestre, in the suburbs of Haine St Pierre, to La Louviere's Stade du Tivoli for the new season. They have apparently been told to bring along their own photocopier, goalposts, nets and corner flags !

Latest Belgian news...Lierse will be relegated at the end of the season wherever they finish in Div 2 this season! The club will also begin next season 2008-09 with a 6 point penalty and have been fined 15,500 Euros. Nothing to do with the matters below, these punishments are all to do with the Paul Put / Zheyun Ze match-fixing affair during 2004-05 (the then Lierse trainer Paul Put had agreed to throw matches apparently under death threats from the club's potential new Chinese owner Zheyun Ze) of a couple of years ago which has at last been decided upon (subject to any appeal from Lierse of course). St Truiden's Ninoslav Milenkovic is suspended for one year, Hasan Kacic cannot play for two years anywhere in the world. Cliff Mardulier is exonerated. Paul Put can never work in football again in Belgium.........Div 3 fixtures in Belgium have been posted on www.footbel.com  However please be aware that UR Namur have appealed that Div 2 be suspended (one match already played) and that Div 3 is postponed until after the VerbGeel / UR Namur September court appearances. This request will not be heard until next Weds 29 Aug - I guess that means the new fixtures are subject to ratification !

WEDNESDAY 22 AUGUST - NIGEL SILK
On Saturday whilst watching Yaxley v March an elderly gentleman in the club house showed me a book entitled Peterborough & District league tables 1900 - 2006. Unfortunately I was unable to find out who compiled it and where it is available. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

TUESDAY 14 AUGUST - PETER ABBOTT
Sunday 23 September 2007 has been designated a car-free day within the 19"communes de la Région Bruxelloise". Clubs with home games that weekend (league and Brabant Prov) will be allowed to alter games without the opposition's agreement provided written requests are lodged at least 14days prior to that date. So, please beware of fixture changes.

TUESDAY 14 AUGUST - PETER ABBOTT
Belgian Div 3 club RRC Peruwelz (matricule 216) have signed an agreement to move in to FC Tournai's Stade Luc Varenne in Rue du Follet for the 2007-08 season. Last year the club moved a number of "at risk" fixtures to the same venue, but it now seems permanent. I suspect that like a lot of clubs, should they get relegated, they would move back to Stade de la VerteChasse in Peruwelz itself. That ground still plays host to their reserves and youth sides.

WEDNESDAY 8 AUGUST - PETER ABBOTT
Belgian news....For the moment, it's agreed that for the 2007-08 season, Div 2 will continue with only 17 clubs (rather than 18) with each club now having 2 free weekends and it's presumed that all fixtures will remain as previously announced. At the end of the season, only one club will be directly relegated with 2 promoted from Div 3. And as usual there will be play-offs between 2nd bottom (usually 3rd bottom) Div 2 and runners-up Div 3. Div 3 A & B will operate with 17 clubs (rather than 16) and fixtures will be-arranged later this week (with extra weeks of course). At the end of the season, there will be promotion to Div 2 as above and 3 relegation places (instead of 2) from each of Div 3 A & B as well as the usual play-offs to/from Div 4. However, Geel and Namur are still protesting and also now, obviously, other clubs in Div 3 are unhappy as more teams will be relegated to Div 4 at the end of the season. PS: CS Verviers have been told that the floodlights at their Stadion Bielmont (athletics track ground) no longer conform to regulations and therefore no night games will be played there this season.   Belgium Div 2 club Lierse SK (matricule number 30), relegated through the play-offs at the end of last season, are in big trouble financially. Players were not paid in June; an outstanding debt to the local authorities must be paid before the end of August otherwise the club will lose access to their Herman Vanderpoorten Stadion; the club's most recent signings (Bojovic and Rimkus) cannot be registered to play in league games; and theclub are desperately seeking an injection of funds !  Newly promoted Belgian Div 2 club Olympic Charleroi expect to receive a bye week-ending 1-2 September (they say confirmed) when the re-arranged fixtures are announced later this week. They then think that will give them the extra time needed to bring Stade Neuville further up to scratch ready for a home fixture on 15 September against Red Star Waasland (to be confirmed) at Stade Neuville. Their first home game of the season has been switched to Mambour, Sporting Charleroi's ground. Meanwhile, RASC Couillet's hopes of moving back to Fiestaux have been put back while arrangements are agreed with the local authorities over who pays for what at the ground. The club therefore want to start the season at Stade Neuville in Charleroi, however, that's all subject to the above works, beyond that, who knows? I might just test you all on this later in the season !

WEDNESDAY 8 AUGUST  - BOB LILLIMAN

THURSDAY 2 AUGUST - PETER ABBOTT
Belgian Jupiler League club Sporting Charleroi has stated that if it accepts (with conditions), that they will host at Stade du Mambourg the Olympic Charleroi - Royal Antwerp Div 2 match, it is opposed to the Div 2 club moving in for the whole season, particularly as their own constitution forbids another club sharing with them! Sporting are still awaiting notification of the game and have said that they will only allow the game at their ground in exceptional circumstances and only if they receive written guarantees concerning the insurances, confirmed responsibility of Olympic's officials and the pitch brought up to scratch ready for Sporting's next home fixture 3 days later. Meanwhile, work has started to rectify the many problems at Stade Neuville, however it is not known how long that will all take, hence Olympic's desire to share for the season. Regarding Verbroedering Geel / UR Namur, following court appearances earlier this week, there is no final decision! The Belgian FA decision to give Verb Geel their licence for Div 2 next season remains suspended. However, UR Namur's case for their promotion from Div 3 was not upheld! Latest rumour is that Div 2 will play with only 17 teams instead of 18 next season (ie: excl Geel) and that Div 3A will play with 17 teams instead of16 to accommodate Geel at a lower level. Worryingly, further decisions may not be made until 15 and 25 Sept and Namur (who do have a licence although there are some issues concerning the Bas Pres ground) are apparently prepared to forfeit their first two games of the season (ie: before 15 Sept) in order to make their point! Any hoppers out there wanting to watch Namur are advised to check games carefully, unfortunately. Watch this space !
